A few Mockups

So I'm working on a concept document for a game called The Legend of the Temple.

The high concept of the game is:

In this 3rd person action adventure, you play as a shaolin monk in modern times who has recently travelled to the western world in search of your brother. Your brother was originally sent to find the source of your temples attackers but has been missing for quite some time, so you must use your contacts in the new world to locate him. Using your kung-fu abilities, stealth, and your arsenal of weapons you will have to fight your way through those who have taken your brother hostage. By gathering information, you will be lead to your ultimate goal of eliminating the source of your temple's constant attacks.

I'm working on a few concept mockup screens for the game displayed below:

Game Maker Creation 5

Clicker

In the game of clicker, you have to click on the boulders to clear a path for the happy face to reach the door. The happy face bounces off the rocks and walls randomly, so the aim is to clear a narrow space for the happy face to move in. You have 3 lives and have to try to avoid clicking on the bomb boulders which will knock your lives down. Help the happy face reach the door before the bombs get the best of you!

You can play Clicker here: Clicker Playable

Retirement Escape is a game simply about escaping a retirement home. You play as an elderly man trying to escape a retirement home while avoiding the doctors. You need to find the correct sequence of doors to get to the final room (seen above) to make your final escape. Can you make it through all 4 levels? Give it a shot.

Game Maker Creation 3

Door Bouncer

The concept behind Door Bouncer is basically you have to maneuver the ball into the door. The door bounces off the walls vertically. The enemies bounce around off the inside and outside walls making you restart your position when they touch you. Avoid the angry statues and access the doors on all 3 levels to win!

If you want to play Door Bouncer you can download it here: Door Bouncer Playable

Game Maker Creation 2

Gem Breaker

Gem Breaker is a game where you have to click on the colored gems to collect points. You collect 20 points for each gem that you click on, trying to reach a max of 200 points. Watch out for the red gems as they reduce your points by 20, one wrong click can ruin your game!
This game was created in 45minutes. Second game I've created using Game Maker.

Game Maker Creation

Ghost-Life

Ghost-Life is a top down avoider game. You play as a ghost who can move in all directions, moving around the blocks to try and collect the heart spheres. While trying to collect the hearts the players will have to avoid the crosses. If the player touches the cross they will spawn back at the beginning. There are 3 levels total. Enjoy, this is my first of many Game Maker creations!

Game Maker games require you to download them.
The Game is located here : Ghost-Life Playable!

Single Player Level Design

So, we've been working in UDK for the past 4 months now. Think I have a solid handle on how things are going.

The ideas behind my single-player level:
- Assaulting a complex
- Plenty of action
- Explosions
- Rocket vs Air vehicle Boss Battle

The level begins with your vehicle rolling in to a stop, you hop out and start an assault on the complex. As you go along, you have to take out the wave of enemies who occupy the base. There are plenty of destructible pieces, along with the required planting of a bomb to break your way into the upper level.

The environment for the level has a heavy emphasis on the jungle feel. The base itself has an ancient Mayan look to it, making it feel right for it to be in the jungle. Having the level take place during mid-day was a design choice as lighting will be shone through the gaps in walls and create a almost Far-Cryesque feel.

Enliven

This will be my First complete Solo-Project Game. Cannon Fodder was somewhat of a test to see what I could do in a short time mechanics, art, sound, all of that quickly.

Test out Enliven! It's been a few months in the works and I feel it is a solid game.

You can play it on Newgrounds and Kongregate

Red Faction and Fight Night Round 4..

Still kicking, just busy working on projects. Been scorching in Vancouver here recently making it hard to work indoors. Laptop at the beach? Might have to be done..

I purchased Fight Night Round 4 and Red Faction Guerilla recently. Red Faction I seem to have a love hate relationships with it, I'll have fun playing it, smashing stuff for a while but I'll never have any real motivation to start it back up again. It feels almost too open? if thats possible, feeling unattached to the story, just saving mars basically. Smashing an entire building down with your sledgehammer hasn't become old news yet though, it's as fun as it sounds.

Fight Night round 4 feels almost more like a "Legends of Wrestling" kind of game, as opposed to the next installment of Fight Night. The controls are pretty intuitive, yet after about an hour of play you should become fairly comfortable. So far in the Legacy mode I've been able to basically not use my left arm and defeat oponents with root hooks and jabs. A little problem? or just encouragement to this players who are struggling with the tougher opponents.

Still playing Fight Night and Red Faction, so I cannot give them a clichè rating at this time.
Red faction seems like a renter, same with Fight night at this point.

Resident Evil 5 Demo!

Capcom has finally offered a date for the Resident Evil 5 demo, though PlayStation 3 owners may be a bit miffed to learn that it's scheduled for an "exclusive premiere" on the Xbox 360.

Beginning January 26, Xbox 360 owners will be able to download a two-level playable demo of the game with three separate co-op options (player and CPU, two players local and two players over Xbox Live).

Capcom's official press release also promises a "new exclusive high-definition trailer of the game" for Xbox 360 owners beginning January 16. "New" seems to be a relative term however, as this trailer was previously seen at 2008's Tokyo Game Show.

Unsurprisingly, the Xbox-centric press release makes no mention of a PlayStation 3 demo, but presumably PS3 gamers will get their demo once the exclusive week is over.

Prince of Persia Review

Prince Of Persia
Review

So, I'm just going to rant a bit about how I felt playing through Prince of Persia. The big thing that struck me right off the bat is you can't die. Don't think "o he's saying that just because it's an easy game" no, you literally can not die. If you jump off a cliff, miss an edge, or get slain by an enemy your trust magic friend Elika will be there to pick you back up and let you carry on your merry way. This helps the game be more enjoyable for all levels of gamers, one of my friends who had only played one game in her life got enticed to play as I drove the "you can't die" factor home.

Elika (pictured above)

There is plenty of the old school Prince of Persia, flag pole swinging, wall running, puzzle solving type of stuff with a limited amount of combat. The controls are like Assassin's Creed's but instead of holding buttons you just tap them once you reach a certain point. So to run along a wall you run up to it, tap A to jump, push the toggle stick towards the wall and bam, you're wall running. Tap A again to jump off, or you fall off after a certain amount of time.

There is also these magic "steps" on the walls
The Step of Ormazd(Rebound)(Pictured Below)

Each color does different things, for instance yellow makes you fly, and the red above launches (rebounds) you fast to a set area, after pushing Y upon landing on it.

Combat in the game is all based on combos. At first I got an extreme God of War feel to the combat because how it explains it is "X, then push A, then push Y" that kind of thing, and you watch him do his thing to the enemy. The scenes are sweet to watch when you first start playing the game, but eventually you learn the best combo and stick to it, seeing the same thing over and over. The lack of enemy models also makes combat very repetitive very fast. There is only 2 regular character models, one weak soldier type and one bigger you have to knock him into things kinda boss. Having this boss being beat only by knocking him into certain areas makes the battles sometimes long and aggrivating. That is why it took me this long to finish the game and write this review.

All in all, I enjoyed this game up until the half way point and then it seemed to drag on. The story is pretty bland and the voice acting is brutal, I mean you're the prince of persia and there is no lick of an accent at all. You also pull some witty teenage humor at parts which ruined it for me at times.

I'd give it a 7 / 10.

It's A Gamers World took a break, apologies

So as you may have noticed, it's been a little while since I kept up with my blogging. School has kept me way too busy and distracted me from keeping the blog up to date. Now, don't get me wrong I haven't fallen behind on my gaming news, I just haven't had time to write.

Video game awards on spike this saturday, (the 13th) supposedly info on the GTA4 Episode 1.

Metal Gear Solid may have a few announcements on friday as it is 6 months after 4 released (if you remember, snake was supposed to die in 6 months).

Age of Conan servers are now being combined due to the huge drop off of players.

PS Home should be out very soon.

That's about all I've got so far, I'll keep this updated more as school winds down and the Christmas break begins!

Gears of War 2

Well, I've been super busy with school but I finally got my Limited Edition copy of Gears of War 2. I am about to put it in and am super stoked to finally play this game.

The only beef I have right now is that, since I live in Canada, they are catering to the french speaking population a bit too much for my liking. The hardcover art book that I paid my hard earned money for is actually 100% in french. There is an art book, soft cover and cheaper quality that is in English, but honestly, there are more English people in Canada than french. I don't understand why they would do this, but I guess it is an art book, you're not really reading too much. Well thats my 2 cents, now it's time to get the gears of war rolling once again.

Left 4 Dead New Level Screens

Left 4 dead is coming out fairly soon and Valve has released a few more screens of a new level “Dead Air”. Looks really good, lots of pictures of closer up character models. They got a nice close up picture of Bill and his cigarette. So many games are coming out soon that have game of the year potential but Left 4 Dead is already guaranteed to be great coming from a company (Valve) that has never disappointed.

Kotaku.com has some great screens up from Left 4 dead.
